EIB Trainee – Group Risk & Compliance Directorate – Climate-related and Environmental Risks Unit – Luxembourg

This 5‑month traineeship, starting 1 March 2026, is based at the EIB headquarters in Luxembourg. The role offers an opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment while contributing to the Bank’s climate‑related and environmental risk assessment capabilities.

Location: Luxembourg headquarters (regular office presence required)

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1 March 2026, with possible extension up to 6 months if required by the university)

Eligibility: Only nationals of EU Member States or citizens of candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) are considered. Applications overlapping with an Erasmus+ programme or more than three applications per candidate will not be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the current Excel‑based tool used for XVA estimation, using Excel or another preferred programming language.
  • Prepare and improve reports on financial risks (interest rate, liquidity, funding).
  • Support updates to financial risk policies and internal documentation.
  • Assist in testing and documenting ALM models and methodologies.
  • Analyze financial data to support accurate and insightful reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency in risk analysis.

Academic Qualifications & Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or a university degree, preferably in IT engineering, mathematics, business administration, economics and/or finance, or environmental science.
  • Understanding of climate‑related and environmental risks, particularly in the context of financial institutions and credit risk, would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Excel).
  • Familiarity with Python, VBA and database tools such as Access or SAS would be an advantage.
  • Experience or interest in working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including tasks such as data extraction.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and/or French; knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
