The Director of Global Software Development will be responsible for delivering highly reliable and scalable custom software solutions that consistently drive business value, with an emphasis on predictable timelines and reducing lead times. They must be a trusted partner to functional groups, business units, and other IT departments, with a deep understanding of how the development team’s software products enable and drive business outcomes—a critical success factor for this role.
The Director of Global Software Development will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and continuously improving existing technology standards and best practices. This includes leveraging the expertise of existing Centers of Excellence in Architecture, Development, Quality, and Agile to ensure technical and organizational excellence. They will foster a culture of continuous improvement driven by metrics and performance data.

Develop and implement the overall software development strategy aligned with the organization’s goals.
Oversee the full software development life cycle using the SAFe framework, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of software projects through coordinated efforts across Agile Release Trains (ARTs).
Emphasize delivering business outcomes rather than merely outputs by ensuring that projects align with strategic objectives and provide measurable value.
Facilitate program increments and iteration planning, monitor initiative progress, manage risks, and resolve issues to optimize lead times and improve overall efficiency while maintaining alignment with business goals.
Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders, enabling transparent update on progress, challenges, and successes.
Foster transparent communication within teams and across departments to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Manage the software development budget, and initiatives budgets, ensuring teams are allocated efficiently to support ongoing and new initiatives
Evaluate and implement cost-effective technologies and processes.
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of software development efforts.
Utilize performance data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Identify, attract, and retain top talent, ensuring that the team possesses the necessary skills and expertise to deliver on strategic objectives.

Ensure that all software development activities comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with software projects and the overall development process.

He/she must have considerable experience within software development, solution design, leadership and communication;
Higher IT education, such as MBA, Master of Science or Business education combined with IT experience preferred;
At least 10 years’ experience in development, development team lead, solution architecture roles;
At least 5 years’ experience in leading international, large and complex development organizations; the company will only consider candidates that have been leading larger teams in international companies;
Domain knowledge of the one of more of the core business areas; retail, logistic, fuel, sales, ecommerce, marketing is preferred;
Communication skills, both written and spoken; ability to explain complex technical and project management issues to non-technical people;
Experience leading the evolution of the development organizations;
Experience with agile development practices;
Experience with software quality models and implementation of KPIs;
Knowledge of financial modelling as it pertains to IT investment, budgeting and financial control;
Exceptional communication skills are essential, with the ability to effectively convey ideas to executive leadership, business sponsors, and technical teams, both verbally and in writing.
