Job Description:

The Director, Business Planning and Operations (BPO) supports the Late-stage Development CVRM and organization with critical aspects of its business processes, change management, strategic and operational planning and execution, as well as continuous improvement. This involves the project management of new and innovative processes, optimizing existing processes such as resource and capacity planning and management, and optimizing interactions with counterparts in other process groups in R&D.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with Head of Business Planning and Operations and Science and Engagement Lead to define, implement, monitor and communicate strategic goals of business processes, change management and continuous improvement.
  2. Lead capacity management process for function (including subfunctions), including forecasting, reporting, tracking and monitoring/improvement of progress.
  3. Drive capacity assessments to inform resource business needs for planning; business cycle updates, project investment decisions, new opportunities, submissions etc.
  4. Develop plans for talent management, staff training and recruitment according to the annual business cycle.
  5. Work closely with Head of Business Planning and Operations to ensure optimal usage of available resources, both people and funds, to deliver the greatest level of productivity and maximum value for the organization.
  6. Develop function scorecard and track progress.
  7. Lead complex projects in Late CVRM, partnering with other functions outside of Late CVRM as necessary to drive enterprise-wide solutions.
  8. Maintain regular contact with persons of influence and in decision-making positions within AstraZeneca globally.
  9. Exhibit a high level of cultural sensitivity, interactive communication, negotiation and effective collaboration.

Requirements:

  1. Leadership skills, including the ability to solve problems and develop multiple options/recommendations.
  2. Ability to act independently, decisively & manage complex processes.
  3. Extensive networking skills, ability to interact widely and effectively across global & functional boundaries, both internally & externally.
  4. Proven ability to work cross-functionally with multiple customers and on multiple projects simultaneously.
  5. Drug development experience and understanding stages of development milestones.
  6. Experience in portfolio and resource management.
  7. High attention to detail and accuracy.
  8. Excellent written, presentation and verbal communications skills.
  9. Proven track record of delivering tasks in a timely manner.
  10. Problem-solving attitude with a focus on delivery.
  11. Master’s Degree, such as MBA.
  12. Proven project leadership/project management experience within a pharmaceutical environment.
  13. Qualification in Project Management.
  14. Track-record of innovation delivering improved business outcomes.
  15. Advanced skills in Planit, ResourceIT.
  16. Experience in the fields of Regulatory and/or Biometrics.
