The team is a part of the Core Banking domain that is focusing on several strategic and high-priority initiatives with five agile teams that develop and maintain Core Banking functionality for the banks and delivering on BEC’s tech transformation initiatives. The position as Software Engineer (COBOL) offers the opportunity to work on strategic initiatives in BEC in a collaborative environment with other teams across BEC. At BEC, we prefer to collaborate often in the office, but we also keep the opportunity to work remotely up to 8 days per month. Your direct manager will be Joanna Skala-Rutyna. Your responsibilities Write well-designed, testable, efficient COBOL/CICS/DB2 code for complex bankingJo solutions. Design solution architecture and drive development within an agile team. Take end2end responsibility for applications including support in backlog planning & refinement, estimation, development, release, maintenance and patching. Participate in technical discussions and decision-making including evaluating solutions, identifying gaps or technical debt in solutions, and addressing performance bottlenecks. Participate and drive adopting product strategies, new technologies and best practices within the team. Ability to react appropriately to incidents and contribute to problem management and incident handling. Prepare clear technical and procedural documentation. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into technical solutions. Collaborate closely with Business Analyst, Product Owner and other developers, and share knowledge across teams. Apply Scrum and DevOps practices for iterative, high-quality delivery. Our requirements At least 5 years of experience as a COBOL developer. A curious, open mindset and passion for knowledge sharing. Fluency in English (written and spoken). Degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Hands‑on experience with COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, SQL, IDz/RDz, Erwin. A positive approach to unit/automated testing.
