Banking and Finance Lawyer – Spanish speaker – based in Luxembourg

Employer: European Investment Bank (EIB)

Location: Luxembourg Headquarters, requiring regular office presence.

The EIB offers relocation support and a permanent contract at grade 5.

Purpose

The Outside Europe A (OEU‑A) Division deals with legal documentation and issues for projects in a wide range of countries. The role provides legal advice and support for lending, guarantees, grants and post‑signature work related to EIB projects.

Accountabilities

• Manage contacts and negotiations concerning the EIB operations handled by the Division.
• Draft documents, provide advisory legal support, finalise contracts, complete all related legal formalities and monitoring (including post‑signature events).
• Understand and implement contractual documentation specificities arising from the various mandates underpinning the Division’s activities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of grant documentation and other blending‑related activities.
• Develop standard legal documentation within the Division’s areas, notably outside the EU specific documentation.
• Provide coaching to junior colleagues and paralegals.
• Participate in horizontal activities of relevance to the Division.
• Liaise with external consultants and supervise their work.
• Conduct legal research on matters and developments of significance to the Division’s interests.
• Keep up to date with legal developments in legislation, regulations and jurisprudence.
• Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally.

Qualifications

• University degree in law (minimum Bachelor, preferably Master), preferably obtained in a civil‑law country.
• Legal qualification ideally in a civil‑law jurisdiction.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in lending and finance, preferably in an international law firm or in‑house legal department of a financial institution.
• Significant experience drafting and negotiating loan and finance documentation in English and Spanish.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Spanish; good command of French is an advantage.
