Our engineering department is a melting pot of some of the brightest (and kindest!) engineers in the industry.

The level of complexity of hx Renew requires a highly technical, true engineering mindset so an output of this is a deeply creative, innovative environment where we push technological boundaries, both through our work and our regular (and sometimes irregular!) hackathons.

Your Mission

2024 has been a big year for hyperexponential. Our profile is growing rapidly, and our customer base with it. We have tonnes of exciting features to develop and we want to deliver more of them in parallel, sooner, safer, than weve ever done before. To make sure were set for the future were going to be looking at all our systems, refreshing most of them and reworking the rest to get us ready for anything. Its a deeply exciting prospect for us, and your mission will be to help us deliver this! Your expertise will be particularly valued if you have encountered accelerated growth in a rapidly scaling engineering organisation.

The Policies Team works at the heart of Renew, building a system that keeps track of all our customers’ models, policies and much more! Sounds like a boring CRUD? We have domain logic and invariants to show for and to keep track of. Your mission – should you choose to accept it – will be to join us on the journey of chopping the monolith, introducing DDD and hexagonal architecture to our code, all while delivering brand new workflows and features.

Experience in the following would be desirable!

• The majority of our work lies with Kotlin, Spring & Hibernate, so experience with Kotlin would be best, but any JVM language will be highly relevant as well.
• You will be upskilled in Kotlin if you didn’t already use it
• We focus on deeper architectural work like modularising our monolith and isolating technical solutions like authentication and authorisation.
• Conducting product work on new features expanding our product coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Help us build the right thing by working with product managers, designers, fellow engineers and (sometimes) customers to understand problems and develop solutions
• Help us build the thing right by writing high-quality, thoughtful, simple, commented, documented, tested, well-structured code aligned to our constants, principles and standards
• Help drive our technical standards, decisions, and strategy
• Continually learn and improve yourself - experiment and play with new technologies through your work and hackathons
• Help reduce friction and eliminate impediments that slow us down
• Help your team and the company evolve our ways of working as we grow into new scales of operation
• Coordinate with other engineering teams to manage cross team dependencies and cooperate on Engineering-wide initiatives
• Help support our product in production by joining an on-call rota

Interview Process

Initial meeting with our Talent team to kick things off, then:

• 1/ Interview with you future Engineering Manager
• 2/ Skills Interview - refactor and architectural design exercise followed by Technical Interview
• 3/ Values Interview

We aim to finish the process within 2-3 weeks. Then, we offer!

Work mode: Warsaw hybrid, 1- 2 days per week in the office at Czackiego 15/17.
