Offer Description

The person hired for this position will be responsible for conducting research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and complex systems science. The work will focus on the modeling, analysis, and interpretation of emergent behaviors in large-scale, adaptive systems – both artificial and socio-technical. Key responsibilities will include:

  • designing and implementing computational models (e.g., agent‑based, network‑based, or hybrid) to study the dynamics of complex AI‑driven systems
  • conducting simulations and scenario analyses to explore non‑linear effects, feedback loops, and phase transitions in intelligent multi‑agent environments
  • developing diagnostic tools for identifying systemic risks, tipping points, and unintended consequences in AI‑integrated infrastructures
  • applying concepts from statistical physics, information theory, and systems theory to analyze robustness, adaptability, and failure modes of intelligent systems
  • documenting research findings in the form of scientific publications, simulation benchmarks, and explanatory visualizations
  • collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in areas such as sociotechnical resilience, AI governance, and systemic safety
  • contributing to the design and implementation of national and international research initiatives (e.g., NCN, Horizon Europe) related to AI and complexity science

In addition, the person in this position may act as a scientific supervisor for a small team of junior researchers (1–2 people), supporting them in model development, literature review, and the interpretation of simulation results.
