Position Overview
The Associate Director, EHS Regional – International is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and driving the EHS strategy across a designated region (International – outside US). This position plays a critical role in shaping and executing EHS programs that align with organizational goals, ensuring employee health and safety, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and promoting environmental sustainability. The Associate Director will be tasked with establishing a regional safety culture, managing risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the company’s global EHS vision. In addition, this role will serve as our subject matter expert for EHS Project Management, specifically reviewing and approving automation meets US/International requirements for Machinery safety and other EHS local requirements. This role will also be our global EHS lead for future mergers, acquisitions and new locations.
Essential Duties
Include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead, mentor, and develop EHS professionals and/or manage EHS consultants, cultivating a high-performance culture and supporting career growth, engagement, and retention within the team.
- Drive the development, implementation, and ongoing optimization of comprehensive EHS programs that ensure regulatory compliance and best-in-class safety practices across multiple sites and countries.
- Partner with senior leadership, department heads, managers, and employees to foster collaboration on EHS initiatives and promote a shared commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Adopt and implement Global safety and environmental training programs that promote employee awareness, engagement, and adherence to EHS policies and regulations.
- Analyze data from safety incidents, audits, and inspections to identify trends, root causes, and areas for improvement. Recommend corrective actions and continuously monitor safety performance metrics.
- Lead investigations into workplace accidents and environmental incidents, ensuring root cause analysis is conducted, corrective actions are implemented, and lessons learned are shared across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and country EHS regulations. Manage regulatory reporting, incident reports, and environmental compliance documentation.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives that aim to reduce carbon footprint, waste, water consumption, and emissions, aligning with the organization's long-term sustainability goals.
- Define, implement, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate EHS performance. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on EHS activities, challenges, and successes.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, addressing hazards and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with HR and Legal teams to manage injury care, and return-to-work programs while ensuring compliance with privacy and local regulations.
- Proactively seek out industry’s best practices, stay updated on regulatory changes, and incorporate emerging trends into EHS programs to continuously elevate the company’s EHS culture and performance.
- Serve as the Global Machinery Safety Expert to provide technical and process support for electrical, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic systems and guarding. Including leading risk assessments and risk mitigation in machinery safety.
- Build organizational capabilities by providing Machine Safety training development of Machine Safety professionals (automation team and others as appropriate).
- Serve as the Global EHS expert for Management of Change to ensure EHS requirements are met with new equipment installations, product changes, projects, and new office/labs.
- Serve as the Global EHS expert for company merger and acquisition activities.
- Manage staffing levels, prioritize workloads, conduct performance reviews, and ensure appropriate training and development for the EHS team to meet evolving needs and performance standards.
- Provide timely support to managers and supervisors on employee health and environmental concerns, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and effectively.

- Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials.
- Ability to international travel 30% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational safety and health, technical/electrical/electronic discipline or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in EHS management within an applicable industry or environment.
- 7+ years of leadership experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a regional or multi-site management role.
- Extensive experience in developing and maintaining EHS programs, auditing, monitoring, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory agencies' requirements.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing with regulatory bodies and auditors.
- Proficient in reading, understanding and designing diagrams in electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience working in a complex matrix organization and multicultural environment.
- Demonstrate global acumen at all levels of the organization and an ability to establish credibility and change within the organization.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills (e.g., email, Internet navigation).
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in EHS management within an applicable industry or environment.
- Experience in a biotech manufacturing environment, medical device technology and/or clinical laboratory.
- Familiarity with FDA, CLIA, CAP Regulations, and ISO 45001/14001 standards.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, CEP, CIH certification(s).
- TUV SUD Certification as Functional Safety Engineer for Machinery Sector (FSENG).
- Experience in designing and leading multi-country EHS programs and initiatives.
