Job Title: Assistant Professor / Researcher (Temporary, 9 months)

Responsibilities
- Undertake innovative research in genomics, evolution of bacteria and bacteriophages, phylogenetics, data analysis, metagenomics, machine learning, structural biology, or microbiology.
- Keep up to date with the latest research literature.
- Develop concepts for new research projects and contribute to new project proposals.
- Collaborate with partners and research groups on joint projects.
- Disseminate results through presentations at scientific meetings and conferences.
- Participate in routine group meetings and present research findings.
- Develop and publish computer software using platforms such as GitHub.
- Act as a source of knowledge, scientific information, and advice for group members.
- Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and methods.
- Test hypotheses, analyze data, refine working hypotheses.
- Contribute to tasks within the funded project and co‑responsibility for shaping research group plans.
- Organize and delegate work, train other members in specialized methods.
- Publish results in international peer‑reviewed journals.
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline, awarded no earlier than 7 years before 2026.
- Doctoral degree awarded by an institution other than Jagiellonian University.
- Relevant scientific achievements and active participation in scientific life.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills (e.g. at international conferences).
- Extensive experience with leading programming languages for data analysis (R, Python, C/C++, Java).
- Experience in bioinformatics software development (e.g. using GitHub).
- Track record of research publications and international conference presentations.
- Ability to collaborate and seek support from team members.
- Interest in bridging genomic and protein evolution through computational approaches, particularly in microbial systems such as phage–host interactions.
- Willingness to work with large‑scale genomic datasets and develop tools for analysing modular protein architectures.
- Curiosity about evolutionary processes such as horizontal gene transfer and modular evolution, and motivation to develop or apply computational methods for their study.
