Project Title

SONATA BIS 14: “4B for LDs: Biodiversity, Biogenesis, Biodegradation, and Biomedicine of Lipid Droplets in Age-Dependent Vascular Dysfunction”; UMO-2024/54/E/NZ7/00269

The selected Candidate will work on a project funded by the SONATA BIS 14 program of the National Science Centre (NCN). The project aims to characterize the role of lipid droplets in vascular dysfunction associated with endothelial aging.

Endothelial cells play a crucial role in regulating lipid transport from the bloodstream. Under physiological conditions, endothelial cells effectively “buffer” excess lipids by converting them into lipid droplets during the postprandial phase, when the body processes and absorbs ingested food. Shortly after their formation, lipid droplets undergo lipolysis — degradation controlled by a set of enzymes and proteins associated with the droplets. However, it remains unexplored whether endothelial cells altered by the aging process retain their ability to effectively buffer lipids under postprandial lipid overload conditions.

The selected Candidate will join the research team of Dr. hab. inż. Marta Pacia at the Jagiellonian Centre for Drug Development, Kraków, Poland.

Their main responsibilities will include:

  • Isolation and preparation of samples from mouse tissues.
  • Histological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical analyses, including microscopic image analysis.
  • Functional experiments using isolated blood vessels (e.g., using a myograph).
  • Interpretation of results and participation in research “work‑in‑progress” meetings.
  • Co‑authorship of scientific manuscripts.
  • Participation in the implementation of the SONATA BIS 14 project.
  • Designing, preparing, and conducting experiments.
  • Analyzing and processing research results, as well as preparing scientific publications presenting the research findings.
  • Preparing periodic reports and summaries.
  • Presenting research results at national and international conferences.
  • Active collaboration with all research groups within the Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics (JCET).
  • Supervising and maintaining assigned laboratory equipment and scientific instruments.
  • Assisting less experienced project team members in other studies conducted within the group.
