The EDP team is building an internal platform for Elia Group software product developers to accelerate the development and delivery of software products to tackle the massive challenges facing the energy sector. The EDP Platform is a service-oriented, cloud-native platform that provides application teams with self-service capabilities to develop, run, and operate their software products.

Position Description

As the Data Core Services Architect, you will be responsible for the architecture of our data core services and integration with counterpart and foundational services. You will report to the Lead Architect of the Data Product line.

Targets in that Position

  1. Design and prototype scalable data architectures, including databases, data lakes, and data warehouses as managed services in the private cloud (i.e., K8s based).
  2. Design functionalities for these managed services, such as backup/restore, IAM, observability integration, and update/upgrade schemes.
  3. Specify managed services adhering to product specifications and SLAs.
  4. Prototype Kubernetes-based deployment strategies for scalable, highly reliable, and manageable data technologies.
  5. Evaluate different data technologies to find the best basis for managed services.
  6. Document best practices for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  7. Collaborate with Services, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams to optimize data technology deployment processes within a Kubernetes environment.
  8. Work closely with the engineering team to ensure proper implementation of defined architecture and compliance with architecture standards.

Profile Requirements

The ideal candidate must be at a middle/senior level, combining a strong technical background in data engineering with expertise in implementing data architectures.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of general IT experience.
  • 3+ years of Big Data experience.
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect or Lead Data Engineer.
  • Extensive experience in developing and maintaining databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Hands-on experience with complex deployment and release scenarios.
  • Familiarity with modern data technologies and cloud services.

Skill Requirements Must-have competencies / Must-have skills

  • Proven hands-on software development experience.
  • Proficiency in data processing languages such as SQL, Java, Python, or Scala.
  • Deep K8s skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of Data technologies/frameworks (RDBMS, NoSQL, Timeseries, Workflow orchestration, Data integration/Ingestion, Messaging/Data Streaming, Data Processing).

Must-have language skills

Proficiency in both speech and writing in English (at least C1).

Preferred Competencies and skills

  • Deep Data-specific K8s skills and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in data privacy and data protection.
  • Proven experience with DataMesh principles in practice.
  • Proficiency in German.
