Senior Data Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Warsaw, ideally 2-3 times a week in the office, can be less frequent)
Job type: B2B (with Hays Poland)
Length: long-term cooperation, first contract for 3 months
Start date: ASAP/1 month Rate: 170-220 pln/h (net+vat)
General information:
Senior Data Engineer (Databricks) is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing and delivering end-to-end data solutions on Azure Databricks, with full ownership across the entire delivery lifecycle. The position requires acting as a Databricks SME, ensuring scalable, high-quality, and production-ready data platforms. It involves defining engineering standards, best practices, and reusable frameworks. The role includes close collaboration with business stakeholders, BA, QA, and engineers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions. Additionally, it emphasizes mentoring and upskilling others while driving excellence in modern data engineering practices.
Tasks:
- Design, build, and own end-to-end data pipelines using Databricks (Jobs, Workflows, Notebooks, SDP)
- Implement CDC/CDF patterns to support incremental and near real-time processing
- Manage Unity Catalog (data assets, permissions, governance policies)
- Configure and optimize pipeline orchestration triggers (schedule, Auto Loader, API, continuous)
- Implement CI/CD pipelines using DAB, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
- Develop Lakehouse solutions using Delta Lake and Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Optimize performance, resolve production issues, and mentor team members
What we expect from you:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position
- Proficiency in English at B2+ level
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks (PySpark, Workflows, SDP, Unity Catalog, CDF/CDC)
- Solid knowledge of Azure ecosystem (ADLS Gen2, Key Vault, Azure SQL)
- Experience with Lakehouse architecture and modern data platform design principles
- Strong engineering practices: CI/CD, TDD, IaC, clean code, and Agile delivery
- Ability to take full ownership of solutions from design to production support
- Strong communication skills with stakeholders, including non-technical audiences
- Experience mentoring engineers and conducting effective code reviews
- Practical and thoughtful use of AI tools in development and data workflows
- Nice to have:
- Higher Education in fields of computer science, mathematics or similar
- Databricks certification (Associate or Professional level)
- Experience with streaming solutions (Structured Streaming, Kafka, Event Hub)
- Knowledge of data warehousing and Kimball dimensional modelling
- Familiarity with Power BI (semantic models, DirectLake connectivity)
- Experience in financial services (fund accounting, investment data, reporting)
- Exposure to Azure Logic Apps or Power Automate for orchestration
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
- Experience with AI integrations (LLM APIs, agentic workflows, MCP servers)
