The Role

Production Specialists are experts in production with several sub-specializations to oversee the final stages of the publishing process, delivering machine-readable online publications. They work with Publishing Managers to ensure high quality and the efficient publishing of articles accepted in peer review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire production process, ensuring each article is meticulously formatted according to our style guidelines, formats, and policies.
  • Review final versions of papers to ensure publication requirements are met.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to typesetters to improve processes through root cause analysis.
  • Engage with authors to address needs while ensuring publisher policies, industry best practice, and technical requirements are adhered to.
  • Publish articles online and in repositories, ensuring discoverability.
  • Work towards individual KPIs with managers to support professional development.
  • Update Production and Typesetting guidelines to optimize results.
  • Responsible for journal publication success – publication speed, quality of final production and publication volume.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ability to manage all phases of the production process (copyediting, formatting, proofing, validating online PDF and XML/HTML formats) or willingness to learn.
  • Understanding of the Open Access publishing landscape.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Proactive attitude to problem solving and daily tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of information and take timely corrective actions to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Experience with markup tools (Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign) and CRM systems such as Salesforce is advantageous.
  • Publishing experience is a plus.

The Role Location: Hybrid role based in Warsaw or Madrid; expected in the office 3 days a week with remote work considered for the remaining days.
