About the project
As a Global Database Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and assisting the development team with all our client’s databases, including performance, integrity, consistency, and reliability. This role will ensure operational performance and service levels are met or exceeded across all databases. An ability to think ahead of the curve and understanding of how to manage and prioritize risk (probability vs impact) is critical to the success of Odyssey and key for this role.
Your responsibilities
- This position will require you to interact with various teams to continuously enhance databases for our business needs.
- You will be required to work with the development team to incorporate business requirements and technical solutions into existing systems.
- Own, track and resolve database related service requests and incidents.
- Ability to create documentation of database structure and procedures.
- Performing requirements analysis.
- Conducting and participating in meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings.
- Documenting and communicating the results of efforts.
- Communicating insights and plans to cross functional teams and management at all levels of the organization.
- Gathering critical information from meetings with various stakeholders and producing useful reports.
- Perform Upgrades/System Administration for web servers, application hosts, all Microsoft SQL servers, MySQL server, and DB2 servers.
- Perform installations and upgrades, provide support, and troubleshoot system issues during office hours and after hours as required by the business.
Our requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or similar field OR equivalent work experience required.
- 5+ years of professional database experience.
- Experience designing, installing, and configuring new Databases in AWS, Windows Server, and Linux environments.
- Extensive knowledge of MySQL (experience with Postgres SQL, DB2 is a plus).
- Hands on experience with Windows servers & Linux, patch installation, IIS configurations, SFTP, web site/application installation and administration.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Database Servers.
- IT experience with a strong understanding of web applications, web site design, database structures, and practices. Including experience with HTML, scripting, XML, IIS, web services, etc.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently.
- Experience designing and implementing a database backup process in a way that meets the business’s recover point and time objectives.
- Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts.
- Experience tuning DB queries to improve performance.
- Experience deploying DB server HA using Virtualization technologies.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Basic WAN/LAN knowledge.
- Network knowledge Domains/sub-domains.
- Experience with Business Intelligence database/tools.
- Experience working with AWS (RDS, Aurora, etc.).
