EIB Trainee - Projects Directorate - Energy Advisory & Energy Efficiency Division - based in Luxembourg

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026) with possible extension up to 6 months if required by university. Eligibility: Only nationals of EU Member States and citizens of countries officially granted candidate status to join the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) are considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications; we will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

• Support the evaluation of allocations in lending, especially Framework Loans, using AI tools.
• Automate the monitoring process for internal reporting.
• Structure and explore automation of EIB Advisory related reporting – leveraging the internal EIB Advisory database and automating advisory related reporting across and for mandates (including ELENA and JASPERS mandate related documentation; reporting per sectors, countries, and investments, etc.).
• Develop templates and compile historical data for internal reporting in collaboration with internal colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Analyse current processes and identify opportunities for AI and IT‑driven automation.
• Develop and implement solutions for automated monitoring and reporting.
• Collaborate with colleagues to structure data and reporting templates.
• Support the division in the automated preparation of documentation and presentations.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

• Final year of studies or Master’s degree (preferably) in Data Science, Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Environmental/Social Sciences, Engineering, or Business with relevant modules.
• Demonstrated interest in sustainable finance, ESG, or public procurement.
• Experience with AI‑assisted analysis tools.
• Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and visual narratives.
• Proven ability to collect, clean, and analyse datasets using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or Python.
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
