EIB Trainee - Operations Directorate - Public Sector - Austria, Germany and Nordics Division - based in Luxembourg

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026) (With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Eligibility: Only applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens from countries that have been officially granted candidate status to join the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) will be considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

To support the activities of the Public Sector and Infrastructure Lending Division of the EIB in the German and Austrian market. You will gain knowledge of the lending process of the EIB as the EU Bank and the largest multinational financial institution in the world.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of market analysis and research on topics of interest of the Division.
• Preparation of speaking notes and presentations for staff of the Division.
• Market analysis/sounding to identify potential clients for business origination purposes.
• Review of information / project data received from external counterparts and input into the Banks systems and internal reports.
• Collection and analysis of financial statement data in support of the credit assessment process.
• Analysis of the portfolio of the Division in Germany.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

• Final year of studies or University degree in Economics, Banking, Finance or similar studies.
• Ability to read and understand financial statements.
• A first experience in financial/credit analysis will be considered an advantage.
• Ability to write credit‑related documents (e.g. financial analysis, reports) in English.
• Very good knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Excellent knowledge of written and spoken German would be a strong advantage.
